Schimke, 25, is entering his seventh season with the Minnesota Swarm in 2015 and serves as the Director of Media & Lacrosse Relations. Schimke joined the Swarm as intern in 2009 when he was a 20-year-old sophomore at the University of Minnesota. After spending three seasons as an intern, Schimke was hired full-time with team in the fall of 2011. Since becoming a full-time employee, Schimke has been promoted twice. He started out as the Swarm's Media Relations Coordinator (2012) and most recently was the Swarm's Media & Lacrosse Relations Manager (2013). Schimke is currently the youngest Director in the NLL, and is one of the youngest Sports Media Directors in the country.
Schimke's responsibilities with the Swarm include serving as the main team contact for national and local media members, producing online and video content for mnswarm.com, sending press releases and advisories to media members, managing the Swarm's social media accounts and the team's press box on gamedays.
On the operations side, Schimke oversees all team travel (flights, team hotels, practice arrangements), travels with the team on the road, processes all player contracts, player transaction paperwork, and assists management with rookie scouting during the NLL Entry Draft. In addition, Schimke also manages all of the Swarm youth lacrosse programs, including the largest youth box lacrosse league in the country -- the Swarm's YBL -- and the team's Jr. Swarm program. Schimke is currently the Vice President of the Box Lacrosse Association of America, the national governing body for box lacrosse in the United States.
Schimke's recent promotion to Director was featured in both the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal and Sports Business Daily. Following the 2013 Swarm season, Schimke was named the Swarm's Front Office MVP at the age of 24.
Schimke attended Eastview H.S. (Apple Valley, Minn.) and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Professional Journalism. While in college, Schimke spent a semester studying at one of the nation’s only Sports Media programs at Oklahoma State University. At OSU, Schimke was a football beat writer with the school’s newspaper, the Daily O’Collegian, an honor roll student and worked in live sports productions, which included time with ESPN College Gameday.
In the community, Schimke serves a Committee Member on the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce's YPro organization. YPro connects young leaders throughout the Twin Cities to Minnesota's largest business network through engaging events.
In his free time, Schimke enjoys spending time with his family and friends, traveling, writing, photography, attending sporting events, and golfing. He also enjoys cheering on the Cowboys (OSU and the Dallas Cowboys) every football season. Schimke currently enjoys being a homeowner in St. Paul.
