Saint Paul, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm today signed D Ben Salo to a three-year contract.
Salo, 24, recorded three points (2g, 1a) in 22 games with the MSL’s Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks this summer. He also played club lacrosse for the University of Florida in 2011 and posted 43 points (25g, 18a) along with 24 ground balls as a midfielder. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound defenseman joined the Kodiaks in 2009 and registered three points (1g, 2a). The Quebec, Ontario native also spent time with Six Nations from 2008-09 and appeared in 36 games, while tallying eight points (1g, 7a).
“Ben is very agile, and has a quick first step for a big guy,” Assistant General Manager Joe Sullivan said. “He’s a shutdown type defender to the point where Kitchener-Waterloo had Ben Salo covering John Grant when they played the Peterborough Lakers. That says something about Ben right off the bat that they had that kind of confidence in him. As I watched Ben play through out the course of the summer in the MSL, he didn’t get beat a whole lot. He’s a great slide guy and he’s going to add to the physical presence that we’ve been trying to get in Minnesota.”
