Benesch becomes the first Swarm player to win a monthly award in 2011

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced that Minnesota Swarm F Ryan Benesch has been named the league’s Player of the Month. Benesch is the only Swarm player to earn Player of the Month honors this season.

“It’s great to see Ryan get recognized for his efforts this season,” general manager Marty O’Neill said. “I look forward to watching him lead us into the postseason.”

In five games in April where Minnesota finished 3-2, Benesch recorded 30 points (13g, 17a) and collected 29 loose balls. Benesch posted hat tricks in four of those contests and tallied eight points (3g, 5a) in Minnesota's regular season finale against Colorado on April 23.

Benesch finished the 2011 season as the NLL’s points (95) and goals (46) leader. Earlier this season, the native of Kitchener, Ontario was named the NLL’s Overall and Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a league-high seven goals in a Week 2 road win against Washington.

Benesch is the first Swarm player to win Player of the Month since G Nick Patterson received the award in February of 2006.

The monthly player awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's ten member clubs.
