SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League (NLL) today announced that Minnesota Swarm F Callum Crawford and T Andrew Watt have been selected as West reserves for the 2011 NLL All-Star game.
Minnesota now has four players that will compete in this year’s All-Star game. Forward Ryan Benesch and G Nick Patterson were named starters for the West squad earlier this week. This will be the first All-Star appearance for Benesch, Crawford and Watt, while Patterson will be making his second trip.
Crawford, 26, ranks second on the Swarm in points (21), goals (8) and assists (13) in 2011. The five-year veteran has recorded at least two goals in four of Minnesota’s five games this season.
“Seeing Callum rewarded with an All-Star selection is encouraging for our organization,” General Manager Marty O’Neill said. “His achievements last season were nothing short of spectacular. I'm sure he will consistently be a force for years to come".
Watt, 27, has posted eight points (6g, 2a) and 29 loose balls in 2011. The Kitchener, Ontario native leads all transition players on the Swarm in scoring with six goals. Watt recorded a hat trick against Rochester in the season opener and most recently tallied two shorthanded goals on the road against Buffalo last weekend.
“Andrew is coming into his own as a top flight transition player in this league,” O’Neill said, “His combination of speed, smarts and finish has built his game to a level that is starting to be recognized throughout the league.”
