SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm today announced that the team has acquired F Jamie Shewchuk and a fourth round selection in the 2012 Entry Draft from the Colorado Mammoth in exchange for F Tim Campeau and a second round selection in the 2011 Entry Draft.
Shewchuk, 25, has spent the past four seasons with the Colorado Mammoth after being acquired in the second round (25th overall) of the NLL Entry Draft in 2007. He recorded his career-best season in 2010 after tallying 66 points (31g, 35a) and 83 loose balls in 16 game appearances for the Mammoth.
In 2011, the Edmonton, Alberta native appeared in five games for Colorado and posted 15 points (5g, 10a) and 18 loose balls.
“The organization felt we needed to go out and get a player of Shewchuk's caliber to add to our left side,” said General Manager Marty O’Neill. “This shores up our crease position on our power play and gives us scoring depth.”
Campeau, 26, was selected by Minnesota in the second round (14th overall) of the 2009 Portland Lumberjax Dispersal Draft in 2009. He notched 48 points (11g, 37a) and 79 loose balls in his first season with the Swarm in 2010.
In four game appearances this season, Campeau collected seven points (1g, 6a) and 14 loose balls for Minnesota.
"Timmy was a great individual to have around, and his work ethic will be missed. He was a pleasure to work with,” said O’Neill. “Both players were struggling in their respective environments this year, and hopefully this gives Jamie the jump start he's looking for."
