SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced that F Ryan Benesch and G Nick Patterson were selected to compete on the NLL All-Star team for the Western Division. The game will take place on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. CST at Turning Stone Casino Arena in Verona, N.Y and will be televised nationally on VERSUS.
For the first time in his four-year career, Benesch, 26, was selected to the All-Star team. The native of Kitchener, Ontario was named the Overall and Offensive Player during week #2 of the 2011 season after he posted a game-high 11 points (7g, 4a) and scored seven goals to set both a personal and franchise record for the most goals scored in a regular season game.
In five games, Benesch has tallied 33 points (16g, 17a) and 29 loose balls for the Swarm in 2011. He recorded a career-best in 2010, with 83 points (28g, 55a) and 85 loose balls for Minnesota.
Patterson, 28, was selected to the All-Star team for the second time. He was also named to the team in 2008. The Victoria, British Columbia native recorded 25 saves on 33 shots and a .758 SV% during 30 minutes of play during the March 16, 2008 contest.
During the 2011 season, Patterson has been selected as NLL Defensive Player of the Week for two consecutive weeks, an honor he has now received a total of seven times in his career. He has appeared in five games and registered 3 wins and 1 loss for Minnesota so far this season, along with a 9.79 GAA and a .804 SV%.
“The Minnesota Swarm organization is extremely happy to see Ryan and Nick rewarded for their play so far this year,” General Manager Marty O’Neill said. “Benesch continues to be our go to scorer on offense, and Nick has put up great numbers this year supporting our defensive efforts.”
The All-Star team lineups were selected by the votes of the league’s coaches, media and fans, who voted via online ballot at the league’s website, NLL.com. The reserves for the East and West teams will be announced later this week.
