SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm will hold the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NLL Entry Draft on Wednesday night. This year’s draft will take place at the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto and will begin at 5 p.m. CST. A live online broadcast of the draft is scheduled to air on The NLL Network at NLL.com.
Minnesota has seven draft picks, which also includes two selections in the Second Round (13th and 18th overall).
“The 2010 NLL Draft is shaping up to be very interesting,” said General Manager Marty O’Neill. “A couple of teams hold a lot of picks in the first and second rounds. There could be a lot of trades tonight. We will be looking to add a few players to the 23-man roster with our first few selections.”
The draft will consist of six rounds from which the league's ten teams will select a total of 61 eligible players from NCAA and NCIA college lacrosse programs, as well as Canadian's junior lacrosse system.
Minnesota selected Duke and Bryant University standout Zack Greer with the third overall selection in the 2009 NLL Entry Draft. Greer entered the draft as the NCAA’s all-time leading point and goal scorer and recorded 23 points (10g, 13a) in 13 games with the Swarm last season.
The Swarm will kick-off the 2011 season at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. against the Rochester Knighthawks. Minnesota finished the 2010 season with a 5-11 record and fell to the Washington Stealth, 14-10, in the first round of the playoffs.
