SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Minnesota Swarm have announced the official “game themes” for the 2011 season home games taking place on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center.
Minnesota opens their seventh season at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday, Jan. 8 at 7:30 p.m. CST against the Rochester Knighthawks. The Home Opener is presented by Treasure Island Resort & Casino and will feature Native American Heritage Night. There will be a tribute to local Native American youth lacrosse players, as well as a half-time traditional game performance by the Oneida Warriors. Early arriving fans will receive bam sticks courtesy of Treasure Island Resort & Casino.
On Saturday, Jan. 22, Minnesota will take on the Edmonton Rush at 7:30 p.m. CST. Companies and individuals can donate tickets to send heroes (military members, firemen, policemen, teachers, etc.) to the game on Heroes Night at the Hive. Early arriving fans will receive cowbells courtesy of 4imprint.
Ladies Night at the Hive will take place on Saturday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m. CST when Minnesota takes on the Washington Stealth. For the first time ever, fans will be able to see both the Minnesota Swarm and the Minnesota RollerGirls for one ticket price as the Minnesota RollerGirls move from the historic Roy Wilkins Auditorium to skate on the big stage of Xcel Energy Center. The Swarm and the RollerGirls will attempt to break the national attendance record for a roller derby event.
Minnesota will play the Boston Blazers on Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. CST on Go Green at the Hive night. There will be eco-friendly and Irish events, merchandise and in-game promotions. The half-time show will feature the annual performance by the Junior Swarm Performance Team.
On Sunday, March 27, Minnesota will battle the Colorado Mammoth at 4 p.m. CST on Family Day at the Hive. The day will feature fun family pre-game attractions, in-game promotions and a mascot half-time game. Fans are invited to bring their dogs with to the game. For one ticket price of $15, enjoy the game from the upper bowl with your dog.
Hockey Night at the Hive will take place on Saturday, April 2 at 6 p.m. CST when Minnesota takes on the Calgary Roughnecks. There will be downtown bar and restaurant promotions in-between the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Swarm doubleheader. The turf will come up following the Swarm game for “Cheap-Skate,” allowing fans to skate on the ice for a special ticket price.
On Saturday, April 16, Minnesota will take on the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30 p.m. CST during the second annual Hive Cares night. Early arriving fans will receive Swarm blinky pins compliments of Old Dutch. Minnesota will partner with the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund as a part of a NLL initiative to “Black Out Cancer.” Local companies are encouraged to contribute to Hive Cares night by sponsoring the event on various levels. All sponsorships include donating tickets to send cancer survivors to the game, in-game recognition and a direct donation to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund. Proceeds from Hive Cares ticket sales, an online Hive Cares jersey and helmet auction, Swarm Performance Team (SPT) calendar sales and tribute T-shirt sales will go to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research & Community Fund. Rock the Hive will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. CST when Minnesota takes on the Colorado Mammoth. The night will feature a performance by the winner of an on-line battle of the bands contest. There will also be an annual Swarm season ticket holder post-game autograph session on the field with the entire Swarm team, coaches, SPT, mascot and public address announcers. Early arriving fans will receive the 2011 Swarm team poster.
