Minnesota nabs experienced forward for third-round draft pick in 2015

Alex Turner

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm announced on Wednesday that the team has acquired forward Alex Turner in a trade with the Edmonton Rush in exchange for Minnesota’s third-round selection in the 2015 NLL Entry Draft.

Turner, a 27-year-old native of Kamloops, British Columbia will be entering his sixth year in the NLL after spending the previous two campaigns with the Rush. The 6-foot, 210-pound lefty has recorded 81 career NLL points (35g, 46a) while playing with Edmonton, Philadelphia, Minnesota and San Jose.

“The Swarm organization is excited to once again welcome Alex Turner to Saint Paul,” said Swarm Owner and Governor John Arlotta. “From his first stint at The Hive we have always liked Alex, and have seen him evolve as a player over the years. We expect him to add even more depth to our left-hand side, and believe he is ready to challenge for a roster spot within our forward corps. There should be some great competition on that left side come training camp.”

Turner is returning to the Swarm organization after playing one game with Minnesota in 2010, before being signed by the Wings the following season. During his single season in Philadelphia, Turner posted a career-high 39 points (17g, 22a).

Playing with the Langley Thunder in the WLA this summer, the graduate of Simon Fraser University (Burnaby, British Columbia) currently leads his team with 64 points in 17 games played, and ranks third in the entire league in scoring offense. Throughout six seasons with the Thunder, Turner has racked up 317 total points (142g, 175a) and helped his team to runner-up finishes at the Mann Cup in both 2011 and 2012.

The trade marks the second transaction the Swarm has made with the Rush this offseason. On June 30, the two teams swapped goaltenders and draft picks in a move that brought Brodie MacDonald and the No. 3 overall selection in 2014 to Minnesota and sent Tyler Carlson, the No. 1 overall pick and a second-round pick in 2015 to Edmonton.

The 2014 NLL Entry Draft will take place on Monday, Sept. 22 in Oakville, Ontario. For more information on how to join The Hive for the upcoming season visit MNSwarm.com or call 888-667-9276.
