Swarm in possession of three top-10 picks

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm are once again in a prime position to add some premier talent to their ranks when the league converges in Oakville, Ontario for the 2014 NLL Entry Draft on Monday, Sept. 22. The draft is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. CT at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre and will be broadcast for fans on Swarm Vision thanks to YouTube and The Lacrosse Network.

Minnesota will enter the draft in possession of a pair of first-round selections in picks Nos. 3 and 5, as well as the first pick in the second round (No. 10 overall). The trio of top-10 selections comes a year after an unprecedented 2013 draft where the Swarm left with four first-round picks, including the top two overall selections in F Logan Schuss and D Jason Noble. Transition player Cam Flint (No. 4 overall) and F Scott Jones (No. 7 overall) rounded out Minnesota’s first-round contingent a year ago.

The Swarm procured the No. 3 selection from the Edmonton Rush via a June 30 trade that also brought touted young goaltender Brodie MacDonald to Saint Paul in exchange for G Tyler Carlson, the No. 1 overall selection in 2014 and a 2015 second-round draft pick.

"We are excited to again be in a position to improve the Swarm through the 2014 NLL Draft," Swarm Owner and Governor John Arlotta said. "Over the past few years we have been able to add some talented young players to our roster through the draft and we fully expect to do the same this year.  We have already used our position in the draft to add a quality goaltender through a trade and we intend to fill a number of other roles in this draft as well."

In addition to their three early selections, the Swarm hold picks Nos. 29 and 38, which open up the fourth and fifth rounds respectively.

The 2014 NLL Entry Draft festivities begin with the 2014 NLL Combine on Saturday, Sept. 20, which gives prospective players one last chance to prove their might in front of league personnel. After the combine is 2014 NLL Season Awards Ceremony on Sunday, September 21. A pair of Swarm players are nominated for major awards, as Schuss is up for Rookie of the Year and Jordan MacIntosh was named a finalist for the Transition Player of the Year award for the second-consecutive season.
