Crawford, MacIntosh and Matisz collected awards in Week #13

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League today announced that Minnesota Swarm F Callum Crawford (Offensive Player of the Week), T Jordan MacIntosh (Transition Player of the Week) and T Kiel Matisz (Rookie of the Week) have earned Week #13 NLL Player Awards. All three players were honored for their performances in the Swarm’s 20-11 victory against the Philadelphia Wings this past Friday on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center.

Minnesota has earned a league-high 12 NLL Player of the Week awards in 2013, and this is the second time this season that the Swarm has won three of the league’s four player awards in the same week.

Crawford, 28, collected his second Offensive Player of the Week award this season after he recorded eight points (4g, 4a) and four loose balls in Minnesota's 20-11 win. The native of Ottawa, Ontario ranks fifth in the NLL with 41 assists and ninth in the league with 62 points (21g, 41a).

“Callum was very key in the victory,” Swarm associate general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan said. “Since he has been named our interim captain, Callum’s game has picked up, and I think he’s seeing the floor better than he has in years. He is confident and he’s playing with a great sense of urgency out on the floor. When he does that, it really rubs off on the other players.”

MacIntosh, 23, notched a career-high four goals, collected a game-high 17 loose balls and added one forced turnover on Friday en route to his third Transition Player of the Week award in 2013. The native of Oakville, Ontario ranks fifth in the league in both loose balls (130) and faceoffs won (163).

“Jordan keeps getting better and better,” Sullivan said. “We almost come to expect these kinds of stats each and every week because he continues to work so hard to get better and be the player he wants to be.”

Matisz, 23, notched a career-high seven points (2g, 5a) and grabbed four loose balls at The Hive against Philadelphia. The Swarm’s No. 4 overall draft choice this past fall is tied for second among rookies in goals (20) and is third in rookie scoring with 44 points (20g, 24a). Matisz leads all first-year players with four Rookie of the Week awards.

“Kiel has been a real treat to watch; he is a really quiet leader and is very respectful of the senior guys on the team,” Sullivan said. “He understands his role on the team, and his role is to produce energy, get good looks and the loose balls.”

Riding a two-game winning streak, the Minnesota Swarm (5-7) will get the chance to return to .500 this weekend with a doubleheader against the Buffalo Bandits (5-8) and Philadelphia Wings (5-7). Minnesota opens the weekend at The Hive on Saturday, April 6th against Buffalo on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center. Tickets to the 7 p.m. faceoff can be purchased by calling 1-888-MN-SWARM or visiting mnswarm.com. The Swarm head to Philadelphia on Sunday to take on the Wings at 3 p.m.
