SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League today announced that Minnesota Swarm transition player Kiel Matisz has been named the Week #7 Rookie of the Week. Matisz was also named the Week #4 Rookie of the Week earlier this season.
In the Swarm’s 17-16 loss to Calgary last Saturday, Matisz notched two power play goals and dished out three assists. Minnesota drafted the 6-foot-5, 215-pound transition player with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft. Through six games this season, Matisz ranks third on the Swarm in scoring with 22 points (11g, 11a) and in loose balls (31).
“Kiel has exemplified everything that we had hoped he would bring to our Lacrosse Club,” Swarm head coach Joe Sullivan said. “He has used his size well all year and again muscled to the net against Calgary for two goals and added three assists. Kiel is not only able to find the back of the net when in close or outside but can thread the needle on his passes to find his teammates. As Kiel continues to develop, look for him to become a solid professional lacrosse player in the NLL for many years to come.”
Minnesota faces division rival Edmonton this Friday, Feb. 22 at Rexall Place. Faceoff is set for 8 p.m. CT. The two will meet again on Sunday as the Swarm host Dog Day at The Hive, where fans can bring their dogs and sit in the upper bowl of Xcel Energy Center. Tickets to the 2 p.m. contest are only $12 with the special promo code: WOOF.
