SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm (1-3) will host the Toronto Rock (5-1) tonight on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center. Faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT and a live stream of the game will air on ESPN3.com in the U.S.
The Swarm will be celebrating Heroes Night at The Hive and will be honoring local military members, veterans, police officers, firefighters, and nurses throughout the night.
Minnesota is 1-0 at home this season, and went a franchise best 6-2 at The Hive last season. Close to 9,000 fans attended the home opener on Jan. 26, where the Swarm won 15-14 against Washington.
For the first time since 2008, the Rock will make an appearance at Xcel Energy Center. The two teams met earlier this season at Air Canada Centre in front of 10,504 fans on Jan. 25, and Toronto escaped with a 13-12 victory. The Swarm held a 12-8 lead late in the third quarter, but went cold in the fourth quarter and could not sustain enough momentum to hold on for the win.
After a tough 15-9 loss to division rival Colorado this past weekend, the Swarm will be looking to knock off the East Division leading Rock in Week #6.
“These guys are all hungry to win and they all play for each other,” head coach Joe Sullivan said. “Our record is 1-3, but it could be 3-1. To be involved in three one-goal games tells me that we’re competing.”
Forward Ryan Benesch leads the Swarm with 22 points (10g, 12a) through four games this season. Rookie F Shayne Jackson, who was named the Week #5 Rookie of the Week, ranks second with 19 points (7g, 12a). Second-year T Jordan MacIntosh (6g, 2a) is off to a fast start averaging nine loose balls per contest, and has won 61.1-percent of his faceoffs.
The all-time series between the Swarm and the Rock is tied 5-5.
A replay of Friday’s game will air this Sunday at 4 p.m. on Channel 45. Friday’s game can also be heard on SAM 101.5 FM in the Brainerd Lakes Area.
