SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League today announced that Minnesota Swarm transition player Kiel Matisz has been named the Week #4 Rookie of the Week. The award is the first of Matisz’s career, and is also the first time a Swarm player has earned a NLL weekly award in 2013.
In two games this past weekend, Matisz notched 10 points (6g, 4a) and collected 13 loose balls. Matisz’s weekend was highlighted by back-to-back hat trick performances on the road against Toronto on Jan. 25, and most recently during the Swarm’s home opener on Jan. 26 versus Washington. Matisz finished with five points (3g, 2a) in both contests.
“Kiel was used as a defender, a transition player and an offensive player in his first back-to-back weekend,” Swarm head coach Joe Sullivan said. “Kiel’s strength and conditioning have allowed him to play all three positions at the highest level this season.”
Minnesota drafted the 6-foot-5, 215-pound transition player with the No. 3 overall selection in the 2012 NLL Entry Draft.Through three games this season, Matisz ranks fourth on the Swarm in scoring with 11 points (6g, 5a) and second in loose balls (19).
The Swarm (1-2) will head to Pepsi Center this Saturday, Feb. 2 to face the Colorado Mammoth (1-2) at 8 p.m. CT. Saturday’s game can been seen live online at mnswarm.com and on the Altitude channel for Dish Network and DirecTV subscribers.
