Andrew Watt #22
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm today announced that the team has re-signed T Andrew Watt to a one-year deal.
Watt continued his run as one of the NLL’s premier short-handed goal scorers in 2012, and for the second straight year, finished tied for the league lead with four short-handed tallies. The Kitchener, Ontario native also made his presence felt on the defensive end, ranking fifth in the league with 21 forced turnovers.
“Getting Andrew back is key,” Swarm associate general manager and head coach Joe Sullivan said. “He’s been one of the core guys here and one of the positive influences that we’ve tried to lay out in our gameplan. He leads by example through the way he carries himself, and he’s just as big of a leader off the floor. We couldn’t be happier to get a guy like that back with us again.”
Watt, 28, appeared in all 16 games last season and also recorded nine points (6g, 3a) and 53 loose balls during his fourth season with Minnesota. In the West Divisional Semifinals against Colorado, Watt played a crucial role in helping the Swarm collect their first ever postseason victory by notching two goals (one short-handed) and scooping up five loose balls.
Minnesota selected the Robert Morris University graduate in the first round (eighth overall) of the 2008 NLL Entry Draft. In 2011, Watt was named a West All-Star reserve and posted a career-high 21 points (16g, 5a) in 13 games. In 56 career contests with the Swarm, the 6-foot-1, 205-pound transition player has totaled 58 points (35g, 23a), 12 short-handed goals and 272 loose balls.
The one-year contract for Watt is currently pending league approval.
