Minnesota finishes its four-game road trip with a 2-2 record

EVERETT, Wash. – The Minnesota Swarm (5-5) fell to the Washington Stealth (4-8) 20-13 on Sunday night at the Comcast Arena at Everett. With the loss, Minnesota finished its four-game road trip with a 2-2 record.

Trailing 15-7 at the start of the fourth quarter, Minnesota’s offense came to life after a sluggish start and scored a flurry of transition goals to cut Washington’s lead to five at 17-12 with 7:54 remaining. The Swarm’s comeback would fall short however as the Stealth’s offense was too much to handle on Sunday night. Washington managed to get the best of the Swarm’s goalies, notching 12 goals on G Tyler Carlson and eight on G Evan Kirk.

Captain T Andrew Suitor (3g) led all Minnesota scorers with a hat trick, while T Andrew Watt (2g) and rookies T Jordan MacIntosh (2g) and F Jay Card (2g, 2a) all chipped in two goals apiece.

Forward Ryan Benesch (1g, 2a), who needed two goals to reach the 100-goal plateau in a Swarm uniform, finished one goal shy of reaching that feat. The Kitchener, Ontario native will likely join former Swarm forwards Ryan Ward and Sean Pollock as the only players in team history to surpass 100 goals next Friday in front of his home fans on Treasure Island Field.

Penalties proved to be costly for the Swarm in Everett. Minnesota racked up a game-high 28 PIM and allowed Washington to convert on 6 of 10 power play chances. The Swarm only capitalized on one power play in five opportunities. Minnesota did however tally two shorthanded goals in the second with scores from Watt and Card to extend its league-high total to 12.

Stealth F Rhys Duch led all scorers with 10 points (4g, 6a) and G Tyler Richards stopped 49 of 62 shots in the win.

Both teams will meet again for a third time on April 14 in St. Paul; the winner of that game will win the season series at 2-1.

Minnesota returns home to Treasure Island Field on Friday, March 30 at 7 p.m. for a showdown against the Calgary Roughnecks for Heroes Night at the Hive. The Swarm will be honoring local military members, veterans, police officers, firefighters and nurses throughout the night. To get tickets: call 1-888-MN-SWARM or visit mnswarm.com. Lower level single game tickets can be purchased for just $20 to all remaining four home games.
