SAINT PAUL, Minn. –The National Lacrosse League’s (NLL) Minnesota Swarm (3-3) fell to the undefeated Colorado Mammoth (6-0) 12-7 on Treasure Island Field in front of its largest crowd of the year, 9,030 fans, at Xcel Energy Center.
Forwards Callum Crawford (3a) and Ryan Benesch (1g, 2a) led the Swarm with three points each in a matchup that remained tied or within a goal throughout most of the evening.
After keeping pace with the Mammoth in the first three quarters of the game, the Swarm failed to deliver offensively in the fourth. Posting the last Minnesota goal of the night, T Andrew Watt (2g) collected his second goal of the game to bring the score to a 7-7 tie.
With an extra runner on the field for a 6-on-5 opportunity, T Jordan MacIntosh (1g) notched his eighth career goal to decrease the Mammoth’s lead to 6-5. Rookie T Nik Bilic (1g) added his first career goal (unassisted) to tie the game up 6-6 at the end of the third.
Facing a heavy defensive battle, F Kevin Ross (1g) managed to add the first Swarm goal of the second quarter with four minutes and 15 remaining to bring the score to 4-3 in favor of the Mammoth. Benesch netted his lone goal of the night one minute and 11 seconds later to chip away at Colorado’s lead and bring the score to a 5-4 Mammoth lead at halftime.
Sneaking one past the goalie to put the Swarm off to an early 1-0 lead, Watt tallied the first goal of the game with a man down for Minnesota. Forward Joel Henry (1g, 1a) then recorded his second career goal seven minutes and 24 seconds into the quarter by sinking a low shot into the net, tying the game up at 2-2. At the end of the first quarter, Minnesota trailed Colorado 3-2.
Rookie goalie Tyler Carlson (2-2) recorded 26 saves on 38 shots in a complete game.
Forward John Grant Jr. (4g, 3a) led Colorado with seven points. Goalie Chris Levis made 40 saves on 47 shots for the Mammoth.
