SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm is proud to announce that it has been named the 2011 Deubener Award winner in the category of Family-Owned Business. The award is presented annually by the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce in honor of Walter & Lydia Deubener.
John Arlotta along with his son, Andy, purchased the Swarm in 2008 and serve as the team’s owners.
“The Minnesota Swarm epitomize what a family owned business should be,” said Matt Kramer, President of the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce. “They are engaged in the community, relentlessly work to serve their customers in ever better ways, and their very presence makes us a stronger region. We are proud to have them as a member.”
The Deubener Awards recognize five organizations each year that exemplify growth, excellence, risk, diversity and innovation. As one of three finalists for the Family-Owned Business category, the Swarm received the prestigious award on Thursday, Nov. 3 at the Landmark Center in Saint Paul.
“It’s an honor for our staff and organization to be recognized with the Deubener Award,” said Andy Arlotta, Co-Owner and Vice President of the Minnesota Swarm. “This award is a reflection of the hard work our staff has put forth over the years in the local community and across Minnesota.”
Arlotta also added, “Winning this is great recognition for our entire organization, but it also motivates us to continue our efforts to be a great partner with the communities we live and work in.”
Under the Arlotta’s ownership, the Swarm has increased its ticket revenue by 30% since 2008 and has committed itself to a year-round effort in the local lacrosse community. In 2008, the Arlotta’s brought the first Division I college lacrosse game (Army vs. Notre Dame) to Minnesota and established the Swarm’s Youth Box League (YBL) in 2009, which featured 900 kids this year. In addition, the Arlotta’s have developed lacrosse programs for Native American youth across Minnesota in an effort to restore the tradition of the sport to tribal communities.
The Swarm was also a finalist for the Family-Owned Business Deubener Award in 2010.
