SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Swarm finalized its 2012 Swarm Performance Team (SPT) this past weekend at the Highland Park CorePower Yoga. After a few hours of dancing in front of SPT coaches Tami Krause and Allison Drusch and their panel of judges, ten ladies were selected to represent the Swarm in 2012.
After learning the choreography from former SPT member Karen (KC), the ladies in attendance were divided up into groups of four to perform the routine twice for the judges. Resumes, applications and scores were reviewed before making the first round of cuts.
"We could of had 20 girls on our team this year, but of course with Swarm there is just room for 10 of us," said Drusch. "The talent was unreal."
After auditioning for four hours, the field was finally narrowed down to the final 10; eight returning veterans and two rookies.
SPT co-captains Jes and Ginger will return, along with three-year SPT member Beth and last season's rookies Annalisa, Jenna, Kara, Kayla and Kristin.
New to the SPT this year are Kimberly and Richelle. Kimberly brings her experience as a former Minnesota Vikings Cheerleader, and Richelle is a former member of the University of Minnesota dance team.
"With eight ladies coming back, there is already going to be that bond there,” Drusch said. “The two new girls will fit in just great.”
With eight girls returning this season, Drusch’s expectations are high. "We are going to expect them to start on the first game as if it is the seventh or eighth; polished and completely prepared. The benefit for the fans and the Swarm is that there isn't going to be a rookie stage when they are starting out. They are going to jump out on the field like they just finished the last game of the last season."
The SPT will debut their new uniforms when the Minnesota Swarm takes on the Buffalo Bandits during its home opener on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. on Treasure Island Field at Xcel Energy Center.
For the third consecutive season, the SPT is partnering with CorePower Yoga. The SPT members will be working out and taking classes at CorePower Yoga locations across the Twin Cities area.
"CorePower is amazing for us as a sponsor," Drusch said. "Not only do they give the girls a membership for the year to keep them in great shape, but also the audition location. We took over this facility for the last three hours. They also give us practice space throughout the season. They are an amazing organization to work with."
"I'm really looking forward to our very first sculpt class together," said Susie Dickey, a yoga instructor with CorePower Yoga. "It's a lot of fun for me to have the girls in my class, because there is a lot of extra energy. That class is really full on a regular basis, and it's a lot of fun to see their smiling faces every week."
