Dan Marohl Interview
Alec Schimke | mnswarm.com | Apr. 18, 2009
Alec Schimke of mnswarm.com picked the brain of Dan "Air" Marohl after the game against New York to get get a players perspective.
Schimke: How did the news of being eliminated from the playoffs impact the team's state of mind coming in to the final game?
Marohl: Obviously it does have some effect. We watched the game last night and when you find out you're not playing for the postseason, you have to look to alternative means of motivation. We are all professionals and there's a lot of people watching us. We have a responsibility to our organization and our fans to come out and play. They beat us in the playoffs last year (Titans) so we had a payback in mind.
Schimke: You guys were down 4-1 at one point and came back to lead 6-4. What did you do there to get things going?
Marohl: We have been slow all season, that was nothing new to us. We finally got some shots to fall and executed the kind of offense we should have had all season, but again we did in spurts all year. We did it for a small part of the first half but could not sustain it in the second.
Schimke: How about out-shooting New York by 15 and still not coming away with the win?
Marohl: It shows that we played hard, that we hustled. 15 is a good number, unfortunately we did get enough on the board. Their goalie made some nice saves, but we can’t fault the effort.
Schimke: Talk about some of the goals you scored from behind the net.
Marohl: It's something that started in the second game and has kind of materialized, but it’s not the way you want to score as a player. It’s a new rule that the league put in... we will see if they keep it. In these kinds of games where you are searching for goals, I will take it any way I can get it.
