Carving for Kids Bloomington, Minn. – Local chefs and celebrities will compete in the fifth annual Bubba Gump Carving for Kids contest, a creative pumpkin carving contest, on Thursday, October 30, 2008, in Sear’s Court at Mall of America. This annual event gives professionals a chance to show their prowess with a knife, while trying to carve the most creative pumpkins. When the carving is completed, all pumpkins will be sold in a live auction. All proceeds raised go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Carving begins at noon with the live auction coming at 12:30 p.m. Confirmed carvers include representatives from the Minnesota Twins, Golden Gopher Basketball, Minnesota Swarm, St. Paul Saints, Minnesota Vikings, K102, WLTE FM, KFAN AM, and the Mall of America, Best Buy and Harley-Davidson stores. The public is invited to bid on the pumpkins and little extras that carvers add to increase the value of their pumpkins. Anticipated items include restaurant gift certificates, concert or sporting event tickets, golf outings, iPods, music certificates, etc. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in children's cancer research and treatment of other diseases.
